Miyakonjo is city of about 170,000 people nestled between the Kirishima mountain range and the ocean in Western Miyazaki. If you love the outdoors Miyakonjo is the place to be. A one hour car drive will take you to some great hiking and camping spots and an hour in the other direction will take you to the ocean and all of the beautiful bounties that it has to offer.

Western Miyazaki

The Kirishima Mountains encompass the entire region. Sekino Waterfall and Lake Mike are remnants of Kirishima's Volcano's active period. (Other such beauty spots are all over the area.) The heart of the mountain lies in Ebino Plateau. 1,300 meters above sea level, in the Spring (Miyamakirishima) and in the fall(Susuki) colors come out, making Ebino plateau rich in charm throughout the four seasons.

Miyazaki Beef

The prefecture's climate and natural environment are suitable for raising cattle. Steak and "tataki", or raw meat, are among the area's delicacies, Beef is also commonly preserved in misotsuke, or bean paste.

Miyakonojo Furniture

Furniture is made from a variety of trees, such as camphor, Cherry, and Kelkova which grow in the area due to it's warm climate and abundant sunshine. the wood's natural grains make furniture particularly stylish and beautiful.
